No Ouchy Slouchy!

This is a great beginner pattern for someone just learning to knit but has mastered the knit and purl techniques already. This item can be made with any worsted weight yarn.

Supplies
(1) 4.5 mm 16 inch circular needles
(1) 5.5 mm 16 inch circular needles
(1) 5.5 mm 8 inch circular needles
(1) skein worsted weight yarn
(1) tapestry needle
(1) pair of scissors
(1) stitch marker

Abbreviations
st = stitch
sts = stitches
k = knit
p = purl
k2tog = knit next two stitches together

Gauge
Using 5.5 mm: 4 inches = 20 stitches

Care Instructions
Hand wash gently in cold water using Woolite, roll in a towel and lightly squeeze excess water out being sure not wring or twist then lay flat to dry

Let’s Begin
·     Using the 4.5 mm circular knitting needles, cast on 90 stitches. Ensure that stitches all face the same direction and none are twisted on the circular knitting needles.
·     Before you join, place stitch marker. Join
·     Round 1 - 8: *k 1, p 1*, around  (will equal approximately 1 inch from the cast on edge if you’d like to make a longer band just repeat for your desired length)
·     Round 9 -  switch to 5.5 mm circulars, k in each st, around (90 stitches)
·     Round 10 - 11:  k in each st, around
·     Round 12: *k 1, p 1* around
·     Repeat rounds 9-12 until you have knitted for approximately 6 inches from the cast on edge. If you want a slouchier hat add more repeat rounds here.
·     Decrease rounds
o   Round 1: *k 8 sts, k2tog*, around (80 sts)
o   Round 2 -4: k in each st, around
o   Round 5: *k 1, p 1*, around
o   Round 6: *k 7 sts, k2tog*, around (70 sts)
o   Round 7-9: *k in each st, around
o   Round 10: *k 1, p 1*, around
o   Round 11: *k 6 sts, k2tog*, around (60 sts)
o   Round 12-14: *k in each st, around
o   Round 15: *k 1, p 1*, around
o   Round 16: *k 5 sts, k2tog*, around (50 sts)
o   Switch to 5.5 mm 8 inch needles
o   Round 17-19: k in each st, around
o   Round 18 : *k 1, p 1* around
o   Round 19: *k 4 sts, k2tog*, around (40 sts)
o   Round 20-22: k in each st around
o   Round 23: *k 1, p 1*, around
o   Round 24: *k 3 sts, k2tog*, around (30 stitches)
o   Round 25-27: k in each st, around
o   Round 28: *k 1, p 1*, around
o   Round 29: *k 2 sts, k2tog*, around (20 stitches)
o   Round 30-32: k in each st, around
o   Round 33: *k 1, p 1*, around
o   Round 34: *k 1, k2tog*, around (10 stitches)


·     Cut 4 inch tail. Using tapestry needle take off stitches from the circular knitting needles purl wise until all stitches are off of the circular knitting needles and on the yarn tail. Pull the yarn tail to tighten, weave in excess.
